How to grow longer hair?

I a young black girl who had a thick head full of hair as a child, but when I ignored it during those tomboy pre-teen years, it got tangled and nappy and I must have lost nearly an inch or two in length. Now that I'm a teen, is there anything I can do to get back my thick fluffy hair? Us black girls have it extra hard because our hair grows so slowly... I'm open to any and ALL suggestions please!

You can do several things to help hair growth. The best is to take some vitamin E or increase vitamin E in your diet. Also scalp massage, getting regular trims, and some people swear by using horse shampoo and conditioner (gives you silky and shiney hair).

I supposedly heard that braiding your hair when you go to sleep at night helps it to grow faster, but I don't know if your hair is long enough to braid... and I also heard that putting wool ribbons into those braids help too. But who knows if it's true, huh? Doesn't hurt to try, though.

I don't think that your hair grows more slowly as much as it just breaks really easily! Use a good conditioner every day and a deeper treatment once a week. Your may also be able to get a more intense in-salon treatment to prevent breakage. Also, get trims every 6-8 weeks: ask your salon to trim off as little as possible just so your ends don't split and cause more breakage. Try sleeping with your hair wrapped in a silky scarf or against a silky pillow, this is also better for your hair... and try not to brush it while it's wet! If you regularly straighten your hair, use the lowest temperature that works. Good luck!

Just keep it healthy. And trim it at least every three months to get rid of split ends. Use a good volumizing shampoo and conditioner(not just a cheapo department store brand), and it will grow. Everyone's hair grows slowly; but if you keep it healthy, it'll grow faster. And I know it sounds weird, keep it trimmed and it'll grow faster, my hubby's always asked the same question, but your hair gets split ends after a while; this makes the hair frizz out a bit, dry out easier, makes that strand of hair a bit unhealthier; and when you have quite a few like that; then you have quite a few strands of hair that won't grow as quickly. So go to a proper hairstylist and have them trim even just half an inch off of it every three months, it'll stay healthy and grow nice and thinck like it used to be.
