Why is my bird afraid of my afro?

Not the one I use on Yahoo! Answers, just my regular old nappy hair. Whenever I let my hair out, my bird becomes extremely afraid of me. Shouldn't he still be able to recognize me?

Why is my bird afraid of my afro?

Maybe he's afraid other birds live there?

start doing your hair once in a while

Why is my bird afraid of my afro?

The same reason I am afraid of it.

I think birds puff out their feathers to show "who's who" so maybe they get intimated by the "largeness" of your hair?!

a change of hairdo or a change of bird...give each other a break.I believe best it recognizes you but it's just the afro-look that intimidates it costing such a reaction....a case of attitude tendency really so learn to live%26amp;let live and you'll see soon you're great partners..again!

I think he should. Your face should be what he zeros in on.. But who knows..in the bird world..it's more of the outside ..like their markings or beautiful colors..maybe he does look at you from your hair first.

When birds are angry/scared/threatened, they puff their feathers up to make themselves bigger, and scare the other off. When you let out your hair, you're essentially doing the same thing, only without knowing so, so you scare your bird because you're a bigger "bird".

Well, there are many possibilities, including the one that was previously mentioned about your bird thinking you're "puffing up" to show who's boss. It's been my experience, though that birds can't always recognize their owners when they change their appearance. My Hahn's has a terrible time telling who I am when I wear sunglasses or costume make-up. Your bird might have become acustomed to you appearing a certain way when you handle it and when you change that, your bird might not know who you are. One thing that always works for my bird is taking off my glasses infront of him or talking to him in a tone he's used to hearing. Maybe you should consider taking your hair down infront of him/her or putting it up infront of him/her so they realize it's you but with a different appearence. Keep in mind birds don't have a keen sense of smell the way dogs and cats do, so the only way they can know who you are is by vision and sound.

It sounds to me that your bird is afraid of entrapment, getting stuck in your hair, therefore it avoids it.

I am sorry, but hahahahaha. Birds arent very comfortab;e with large moving things, unless it is someone they know.
