Black Hair Salon Montreal, QC?

I just moved to Montreal - actually I am only going to school here (freshman year) - and I have no one to do my hair! I always wear extensions (weaves) in my hair and I'm in serious need of getting my hair re-done...seriously, it's getting nappy. I'm also terrible at doing my hair myself and maintaining, especially with the busy University life I'm living. If anyone knows of any decent BLACK HAIR SALONS that do QUALITY EXTENSIONS at a reasonable price (or expensive if it's very well done) in MONTREAL than please please PLEASE let me know!!!

Thanks!

African American women and men, are you offended by the word "nappy?"?

So after these long drawn out discussions about Imus and his remarks, there has been a lot of talk in the African American community about the word nappy. Some say it is the other "N" word. Some say it dates back to slavery and it was used by slavemasters to degrade and insult Black people because of the texture of their hair.

Im a proud sister that wears my crown with pride. I don't call my hair nappy. But I have many friends that do and I have no problem with it cause they can label their hair however they want to. I prefer to call my hair what it is, kinky or coily. I personally don't use the word because of the history behind it and usually when it is used by others, it is used to insult. But I also want to point out that Im not in the business of telling others what they should or shouldn't say. I can only make choices for self:)

I was just curious about how others in the African American community felt about the word "nappy." Are you offended by it? Why or why not?

African American women and men, are you offended by the word "nappy?"?

I am not offened by the term "nappy" at all because I know it does not apply to me to. What would/did upset me is the non-chalant attitude and ease that we use the terminology greet and refer to our brothers and sisters.

It is not a fact of if a person chooses to leave themselves that way but how are to going to address each other that way and then expect respect within our selfs and further more from others.

Life has it's funny angles and we must begin to look at the entire picture prior to making moves or making statements that not only hurt the person they are about but also our culture and race.

African American women and men, are you offended by the word "nappy?"?

If Black people like their hair nappy, than it's not an insult, and there's a difference bewteen stylish nappy and nappy as in, dirty, rough, dry. Nappy hair doesn't apply to me either way. And many people think of nappy as the dirty, rough, dry hair, instead of the stylish form.

African American women and men, are you offended by the word "nappy?"?

not at all.

African American women and men, are you offended by the word "nappy?"?

It's not "nappy" that's offensive, it's combining it with "hos" that is. It's one thing to say a marine has a shaven haircut, it's another call a marine "shaven + (whatever insult you can think of). Same thing applies with anybody. I wouldn't like being called "Roman Imperial Scum." Although "Roman" and "Imperial" are not offensive.

African American women and men, are you offended by the word "nappy?"?

Not if the person i am speaking to at some point in their life had nappy hair.

White people just shouldnt go there. Look, people might say thats racists, but so is Virgina waiting 150 to say sorry for slavery.

It actually can be used as an affectionate term, but white folk just need to leave that word alone.

Its a black thing.

African American women and men, are you offended by the word "nappy?"?

I guess it would depend on the context in which it was said. As far as Imus, I don't think it was so much the nappy as to the wh-res he called them. I know it would be for me. With so much that other races use to try to berate blacks, these are children. And not just any children, to be professional children who are trying to make something better of themselves. May God Bless U.

African American women and men, are you offended by the word "nappy?"?

No, I'm not offended by it. Like you though, I don't refer to myself, nor my hair, as "nappy", but I've had people refer to my hair as nappy, and they don't mean it as a derogatory term, so I don't get mad. Hell, my own sister calls me her "happy and nappy" big sister. That doesn't offend me at all.

But that's not to say the word can never offend me. If, like Imus, someone called me a "nappy ho", I'd be offended and probably fighting mad too. So, the word itself is not offensive; it's how you use it, and the intent behind its use.

African American women and men, are you offended by the word "nappy?"?

I am not offended easily first of all. I consider the source and the intent of the messenger. I was taught and truly subscribe to "If you don't get over folks you will never make it".

There is a "great" difference though between being publicly and privately humiliated (don't let anybody lie to you and tell you different). And professionally you should always consider if what you are saying would be considered offensive (not just to your friends. Your friends would pratically let you get away with anything as long as it's not toward them). You should always remember the Golden Rule. Some people work in unorthodox professions and have more of a curve, but you should be more mindful.

God made my hair I think it's beautiful, I think that I am beautiful. I don't think that straight hair automatically means pretty and definately not "good".

What is wrong with being different? Nothing. Somebody has straight hair. Somebody has nappy or shall I say coarse hair, Somebody does not have any hair.

So what?

The "nappy hair" simply is not the problem. I believe the world is evolving and as those who truly carry life from one decade to the next keep standing we will all get along and forget about race but I'm sure we will find something else to argue about $$$$$ :-)

What I mean by the dollars signs of course is money. I believe there will be a time when race does not matter only how much money you have.

African American women and men, are you offended by the word "nappy?"?

If the hairs nappy, well then its plain nappy. Its a descriptive word, don't get pissed off about the truth. You should like yourself for the way you are. By the way growing up I had some nappy hair and thought it looked cool.

African American women and men, are you offended by the word "nappy?"?

Nope it does not offend me ,but being called an H%26gt;O%26gt;E or a B%26gt;ITCH or a stink H%26gt;OE i would say is very offensive .

African American women and men, are you offended by the word "nappy?"?

NAPPY USED BY FRIENDS AND FAMILY

NO PROB BECAUSE THEY HAVE THE SAME HAIR

white strangers use it in play (basketball foot, cards etc)

NO PROB

WER'E TALKIN NOISE

But as an insult anyone is victom or prey

We professionals prefer the phrase "over curly"

ech hem! "coily" you must be from Boston or... lol

African American women and men, are you offended by the word "nappy?"?

Words have different connotations in use. You can say the same word with a different tone and/or context and infer something completely different.MY hair is natural, kinky, coily. I love me and my hair.Because I know there are negative connotations for other people associated with the word nappy I do not usually describe my hair that way.

For some people saying you have nappy hair is the same as saying "you have a rat on your head or you have an aweful unsightly disease"--hide it..

It did not sound to me like Imus' use of the word "nappy" was simply a descriptive- the same as calling someone tall with brown eyes.He meant it as an insult but I was not necessarily insulted by it--just mainly the ho part...even though he was not speaking to me.

PS if someone calls you nappy headed and starts laughing at you--then it is an insult in their opinion.

African American women and men, are you offended by the word "nappy?"?

I love it. I wear my hair naturally. It's not rough, dry, or ugly. I'm not mixed or have "good hair" I just keep it up and take care of it. We all should invest in our own hair and stop letting the Asians make millions off of us. Imus said that to down grate us, but I'm only offended by the "ho" part. What does he know about nappy hair. He's just a stringy headed ho!!!

African American women and men, are you offended by the word "nappy?"?

I don't mind the term; it's all about the context that it is used in

African American women and men, are you offended by the word "nappy?"?

Its not the word "nappy" its in the way its use...until the phrase "happy to be nappy" was coined a few years back, nappy was always used in a derogatory way....so it just depends on who, and how its said....

As of this week I want some nappy hair, I'm thinking about braiding mine down and buying some really nappy pretty brown hair, sewing it in and...............they are going to Love my nappy headed behind!!!!!

African American women and men, are you offended by the word "nappy?"?

No, but I prefer my hair to be called tightly curled or kinky/coiled. Nappy to me has such a negative connotative behind it, because of the past.

African American women and men, are you offended by the word "nappy?"?

Hmmm...Nappy? Nah ,not offensive to me.Theres a chain of black hair salons with the word Nappy in its title.bNappy to me is another word for messy.

I thought the word jiggaboo was MUCH more offensive than nappy. Thats basically slang for the word ni99er.

African American women and men, are you offended by the word "nappy?"?

I am not offended by the word, but it was the context used by Imus that was offensive along with the fact that he has a record of racist remarks. That said it was taken way out of hand by the media ( and a lot of people on this website). I like the fact that Oprah and others are trying to address the disrespecting Black women by this society and hope that something positive can come out of this situation.

One Hurt Black Sista?

I was so hurt by this. These guys at my school wre saying some awful things about my hair. They were saying that my hair was "nappy" and that I was "bald-headed" and that I used to have "good hair until I cut it" I hate the guys at my school. I used to have long hair down to my waist and now the guyus don't like me anymore because I don't "relax" my hair or wear it long. I'm tried of looking at an Ebony or Essence magazine with a Black woman with straight hair, Why can't we wear our own hair texture? And even if we do, our own people are always making us feel bad for having "Nappy hair" I'm tried of it. i'm tried of ignorant guys turning me down just because I happen to love my hair extra curly and turning me down because I'm not "light-skinned"

One Hurt Black Sista?

Speaking from a fellow "nappy"...I noticed when I cut all of my relaxed hair off, I received quite a few compliments from hispanic and white men. With black men it was about 50/50 (compliments vs. insults); and with black women I received 1 compliment for every 2 insults. But even taking all that into consideration...would you really want to be with a man who didn't think you were beautiful?

The reason I pose the question like this is because I have been going through the same thing since I did my BC in April. My desire to be my God-given beautiful self ruined one of my relationships. Couple that with being at a college where hispanic women are even more so the creme of the crop than usual, I was beginning to lose my confidence. But if you really think about it--there is only one man that has to think you are beautiful on this planet and that is the one you will marry. All others can take a hike! There is someone for everyone and there is someone for you too. Truth of the matter is that right now (and forever) your opinion matters most so if you think you're beautiful then you are. Be confident (kno you are beautiful because you are) rather than convinced (believing you are beautiful because people have told you).

You'll be fine and remember to sport those gorgeous kinks and curls!

One Hurt Black Sista?

Perhaps you should ignore the guys if they are guilty of both the above they sound as if they have a bit of growing up to do yet.

One Hurt Black Sista?

I'll bet that your hair is beautiful!! I too wore my hair short and natural for 2 years. But, I live in a city where the gay population is extremely high, and I found that I was receiving attention from the wrong gender, but, that's another story.....

The guys that tease you are insecure. They do not feel good enough about themselves to appreciate your Nubian beauty. The way that they are responding is actually a good thing: it gives you the opportunity to weed out the ones that are not worthy of your attention. You'll meet a nice young man who can appreciate your true beauty, and you'll know that he is genuine.

One Hurt Black Sista?

I can't really empathize with you, considering I'm white. All I can say is be strong and wear your hair however you like it! People who really matter don't care, and those who care don't matter. I think this whole "relaxed" hair thing is just a trend, like everything else, and before you know it, the girls with relaxed hair will be the ones getting ridiculed. Respect yourself. If you don't, no one else will. That's the number one lesson I've learned in life.

One Hurt Black Sista?

This world is so focused on an idea of beauty that takes the white

race as the superior arbiter of what beauty is. Its hard to fight

against, hence the insults of "nappy" hair or being too dark or

having too wide a nose, etc. Every race seems to be afflicted with

this "envy" My background is Latino/Native American +, a real

mongrel or as we like to say... a hybrid. Yet look at all those Latino

women trying to go blonde, when it makes their skin tone horrible

and turns their hair a weird orangey shade. Or the Asians that

are undergoing eye surgery to give them "Western" eyes. Its

a hard thing to fight against as it is so persuasive, but you can

set your own standards of beauty and rejoice in the person you

are. The imbeciles who deride you are not worth your notice,

there are still people out there who value honesty, just look

around and you will find one.

One Hurt Black Sista?

I find it hard that having short hair and darker complexion would

prevent you from being noticed and accepted by guys. Maybe

you have issues with your self esteem. Also you might want to

consider a make-over. Sometimes how a woman dress and

acts are a bigger turn off than her physical appearnce.

One Hurt Black Sista?

Guess what there are MANY men black/white who will like/love/and appreciate the way you look......so don't stress yourself over some commercialized little boys......good luck

One Hurt Black Sista?

dont blame the brothers. They've been conditioned. Even thier conditioning has been conditioned.

One Hurt Black Sista?

To be honest. I prefer black girls with their natural hair. I guess its to gain acceptance to have long straight "white people's hair," or "good hair." I'm half Latino and half white and I haven't dated many black girls (not by choice) but if I ever do, her cute "nappy" will be fine with me. Just be yourself, don't worry about those knuckle heads.

One Hurt Black Sista?

I feel the same way, my hair a year ago was very long and of course relax and then I decide to go natural did the "big chop off". My mother cry, and my now ex boyfriend stopped talking to me. I noticed a decline in guys trying to ask me out. I think that most of Black America is brainwashed to believe that beauty equals light skin, long straight or soft wavy hair but beauty to me is so diverse and complex.

One Hurt Black Sista?

I wear my hair natural, although I do press it from time to time, and I love my natural hair. Those guys are immature and close minded, they don't know what beauty is. You should be glad that those guys turned you down because they are idiots who don't love or like you for who you are. You want a guy that loves you no matter what your hair looks like but at the same time appreciates your unique beauty.

One Hurt Black Sista?

hey look at me. i appreciate you for who you are none the less. u are what my dream girl would be like. i am sorry for the hurt that those illiterate boys had caused. but i am hear to say that all black men arent like that. i for one am happy that you are natural person i respect that its just sad that most men dont see my perspective. im tired of sistas trynna look like white women an i hope this wont change or effect ur appearance. we need more women like you because women like u are make life worth living.

One Hurt Black Sista?

So what? If you were meant or if most black women were meant to have straight hair they would've been born with it or it the first time they relaxed their hair it would've stayed straight; but no your hair on your head is meant to be curly so wear it natural and get over what some fools think of you; when you have that flowing long hair that you can press anytime what are they going to say then?

One Hurt Black Sista?

i am indian and i had hair up to my butt now its up to my neck and all my indian friends always bugg me and tell me to grow my hair and they always talk about it 24/7 even when i meet people from diffrent race backgrounds they expect me as a indian girl to have long hair up to my butt and its depressing i hate it when people think indian girls hair grow fast but it doesnt. so i can relate to u. anyways forget people they should learn how to mind their own buisness and get a life people who tease u about small things are insecure and just want to have something to talk about

One Hurt Black Sista?

I love Black men, but they make me so angry at the same time. Some of the stuff they say is so ignorant it's like they don't like being Black. I used to hear that a lot when I was younger, but now people compliment me on how I look different. I stand out. Take a stand girl and stand out. Be proud! Those guys have serious problems.

One Hurt Black Sista?

Daaaaamn girl you sure do have alot of problem, I hope life gets better for you

I have a sensationnel hair weave and I've has it for a week. The back part is getting nappy + t

I tried washing it but didn't help much. What can I do to get the tangles and napp's out, and make it look new again.

I have a sensationnel hair weave and I've has it for a week. The back part is getting nappy + tangled.?

hmmm.... well you might want to call the salon and ask the stylist. I had a similar problem where the women did the weave wrong and put a knot in it. It was so nappy. I had to wash it in cool-cold water condition it, blow dry it,flat iron it(oil sheen) and that really helped a lot.

I have a sensationnel hair weave and I've has it for a week. The back part is getting nappy + tangled.?

ask whoever did it to get it out.

My hair is not relaxed and im black so every time i straighten my bangs the get really nappy and fri

how can i keep that from happening i have an event coming up and i want flat twist and curls in the back with side bangs how can i keep my bangs straight and keep my curls soft for the night hellpp by the way do u think this hairstyle is cute

My hair is not relaxed and im black so every time i straighten my bangs the get really nappy and frizzy?

use isoplus pressing oil, it works wonders...that's what i use when i press my hair and it makes it silky soft

My hair is not relaxed and im black so every time i straighten my bangs the get really nappy and frizzy?

*sigh*

why do people feel the need to include skin color

My hair is not relaxed and im black so every time i straighten my bangs the get really nappy and frizzy?

I think you have to relaxed your hair or have some sort of texture softener.

You can always use a serum.

My hair is not relaxed and im black so every time i straighten my bangs the get really nappy and frizzy?

if you dont want to get a relaxer..texture softeners work..it just sounds like you might need to get a new straightener..or why not go to a blk salon so they can help you out..im sure they'll help you out with somethin so quick without making you pay much..just find the right straightener for blk women or the right salon.

My hair is not relaxed and im black so every time i straighten my bangs the get really nappy and frizzy?

Stop straightening your hair without adding a hair dressing to it. Your ends are probably damage.

What is somthing to say to somone when they talk about your hair or weight?

Like when your hair is nappy and you skinny.

What is somthing to say to somone when they talk about your hair or weight?

If anyone has the nerve to comment on either of these things, I would let them know when I wanted their opinion, I'd rattle their cage. LOL They will kinda be in shock. People need to learn to keep their mouths shut!!! Agree??

What is somthing to say to somone when they talk about your hair or weight?

well maybe there jus makeing fun of u to make there self feel better

What is somthing to say to somone when they talk about your hair or weight?

"well maybe there jus makeing fun of u to make there self feel better"

That's just a weak excuse.

Tell them to screw off.

Then punch them in the face.

I assure you, they will not talk about your nor your weight any longer.

What is somthing to say to somone when they talk about your hair or weight?

if somebody says you are thin just say "yup" or if they say your hair is nappy say "really???"

one word answers are best even dull one word answers like "oh"

I mean these are dumb comments - people just say it for something to say

What is somthing to say to somone when they talk about your hair or weight?

Watch MTV's Yo Momma for some comeback jokes... Seriously combat their negative comments with self-praise. Tell them why you like your hair or what you like about your figure.

What is somthing to say to somone when they talk about your hair or weight?

actually its a proven fact that people often talk about oothers to boost their self esteem i know if i was to make fun of someone it would give me some sort of esteem boost because i would only talk about the things that are not like me, but i guess, jus dont worry too much bout that i had a lot of trouble with other girls in high school but look at me now im in one of the top colleges and their at home with a baby whose father doesnt want to claim it.

What is somthing to say to somone when they talk about your hair or weight?

You should say"You act like your hair is betta than mine!Look at it1It's worse and look at that lice!no one wanna be with somebody with lice!!!!!!Ewwwwww!O and if u got something to say, well maybe u should say it to my face and not floor.Stop acting like you r scared!O and what is in your system that makes u wanna make fun of your ownself!?"That should calm them sl*ts down....lol

What is somthing to say to somone when they talk about your hair or weight?

I just had a baby and people contstntly are looking at me and asking my weight- i tell them i gave birth 3 days ago, even though it was six months ago-then they say i look great-if you did't just have a baby-try flattering your body with clothing that is slimming. Try a wideleg pant with a polo and a denim jacket or get your hair to the sylist-add some highlights and use a good conditioner. Tell people to look in the mirror-they don't look so hot

What is somthing to say to somone when they talk about your hair or weight?

When someone makes fun of your weight or hair, hold your head up high and smile and simply say "Ignorance is a good color on you." Then walk away while still holding your head high. Don't ever be ashamed of who you are.

What is somthing to say to somone when they talk about your hair or weight?

dont listen

What is somthing to say to somone when they talk about your hair or weight?

If I feel that a person's conversation is complimentary, I will engage in the subject matter with some interest. First of all, you are too important to stand aside and listen to complaints. Remember that only you can make others understand how important you are. Refuse to listen to stupid and ill-intentioned statements about your hair and your weight. Someone who wants to hurt your feelings has no good point toward you. Put yourself as far away from that person as possible (even relatives, if they are a part of this) and be your own person. Do not let anyone make themselves important by letting them put you down. God Bless.

What is somthing to say to somone when they talk about your hair or weight?

u know wut....i had the same thing happen to me...but see im...actaully i dont know if im too tall for my age (13). lol...but ha! i just make fun of them bak. dude, theres a guy thats in the same history and literature class. he always sat behind me. we have thoses seats that high school classrooms have....so anyway, he always put his feet under my chair and lifted me up. I HHAATTTEED it. siriously, i would of loved having a guy gving me a ride on the chair, but it was this guy's face that i didnt like to give me that ride. and u know wut this ugly-lookin' idiot always did....he made fun of my wieght! dude, he weighs like MORE than me. like maybe 100x more that me!! he ways 170lbs! iii kknnnooooowwww! huh? anyway, he made fun of my wieght! and i way like 120. my wight may be more or less that u but thats not the point . anyway (for like the 20th time)...i began making fun of him. everytime he lifted my chair and called me to heavy for him to lift, i just said, "i dont think im too heavy for you, i think ur feet and legs are too weak!" Then everyone would go like "BURN!" then i would give him a nasty look and turn around to start paying attention to wut the hec we're learing in history or literature. sooooooooo i have no idea if this will help you but i just wanted to tell u my story on wut i do when ppl make fun of me.

What is somthing to say to somone when they talk about your hair or weight?

I usually joke about my hair or weight. Might as well laugh about it, there's not much I'm gonna do about it anyway.

I am the opposite (balding and overweight). If you can joke about yourself and just accept yourself for who you are, you are the better for it. It will not be any fun for someone else to make fun of you if it doesn't get to you.

What is somthing to say to somone when they talk about your hair or weight?

Don't say anything. Laugh, smile, and shrug. It always works. It makes people think you have more confidence then you really have.

What is somthing to say to somone when they talk about your hair or weight?

1)most overweight people will literally kill themselves to be skinny. so if ure skinny be proud of it!

And if they make a comment, just say, "Whatever," and ignore them. If they continue and make snide comments behind ure back either confront them. Another one, ask them if they know what a "Ignoramus" is. If they say no, walk away calmly knowing that you have higher mental abilities than they do. If they say yes, they still probably don't know, so u can still walk a mile away then start laughing.

-Anni ^^

What is somthing to say to somone when they talk about your hair or weight?

Tell them to f- off but if that doesn't work, tell them at least I don't have to make fun of people to feel good.

What is somthing to say to somone when they talk about your hair or weight?

As far as hair, I wear my hair natural. Aka: nappy. And my response is usually like,

I like my hair nappy, it feels good and I like wearing my afros-which they usually roll their eyes at.

or

God made me this way, why change it-which usually solicits more eyeball rolling

or

say nothing, just shrug your shoulders and smile like, eh I guess it IS nappy huh, and keep going.

The skinny "problem" I don't have, but I doubt its as bad as being fat with nappy hair. People always have something to comment on, right?

What is somthing to say to somone when they talk about your hair or weight?

I agree don't pay no attention to them, That's all you need to give them is simple *** answers, with a lil attitude, and if they don't like then screw them, there probably just made because they know they going to get fat anyway. which is wrong to say, but it gives no one no right to talk about the next person when you have subconsious thoughts about yourself, and you can't say you don't because everybody do.

What is somthing to say to somone when they talk about your hair or weight?

Uhh tell her that she may be physically perfect but ur perfect emotionally and that she has brain damage

What is somthing to say to somone when they talk about your hair or weight?

You don't say anything, you walk away. They are making fun of you because they are insecure with themselves. If you're skinny and they're larger, they might be upset at that fact. Be the bigger person and walk away!

What is somthing to say to somone when they talk about your hair or weight?

Even if is short or long some times you can explain your situation, for those that relay care they will listen. For Rude inconsiderate people they are just unhappy with themselves. And if that's all they can think about is you girl say thank U for making me center off your world.Life is full of wonderful things if you are pleased with yourself don't think about petty people.

yOU COULD SAY iM NOT SKINNY YOUR JUST FAT.aND MY HAIR ISN'T nAPPY YOUR JUST P.O. b/C U DONT HAVE ANY

yES THESE SHUT PEOPLE UP i HAVE TRIED IT

What is somthing to say to somone when they talk about your hair or weight?

tell them to get a life and leave you the f*** alone it's not your fault their live's are so freakin boring so buzz off. That should do it and if not just ignore the trash their saying and live your life.

What is somthing to say to somone when they talk about your hair or weight?

Honey,

think this way, but everyone is pretty in his/her way, and you look like this because someone there love you the way you are...

dont change it.

I think it depends on your attitude.

Black Women; do you have too many naps in the kitchen?

How did black women become convinced that our hair, in its original state, is hard to manage?

It is said that Black women straighten their hair or perm their hair or get extensions because it is much easer to manage that way but who taught them that?

Africans have been managing African hair for thousands of years but all of a sudden kinky hair is too hard to manage.

Well, yea, it is too hard to manage if you are Black and you are trying to get your hair to look like the Barbie doll you had when you were little. Black hair is hard to manage if you are trying to get your hair to be like White peoples hair... you know,... "good hair".

Admit it! White people's hair is the norm in America and my black sisters have been running away from nappy hair for a very long time. They used to bleach their skin too.

Just admit that you don't want to be seen with "naps in the kitchen" Admit it!

Repeat after me: " I'm Happy Being Nappy! "

Black Women; do you have too many naps in the kitchen?

I'm Happy Being Nappy!

Black Women; do you have too many naps in the kitchen?

okay then...

Black Women; do you have too many naps in the kitchen?

I hate nappy hair.Hair looks so much prettier shiny and sleek, than kinky, wild, dry, and out of control. Also combing and brushing nappy hair isn't good for the hair any way.

White people hair has nothing to do with it.Black people aren't trying to have their hair looking like "white peoples".We are just trying to look good.

Black Women; do you have too many naps in the kitchen?

im not nappy but im happy...... :?

Black Women; do you have too many naps in the kitchen?

I don't want to be seen with naps. True some women are happy to be nappy, but judging by the various black hair magazines that show mainly relaxed and weave/wig styles, it's safe to say that the majority of black women like straight.

Black Women; do you have too many naps in the kitchen?

You made a lot of fantastic points. Judging by your avatar, I can see you wear you hair natural. I'm an African American woman with natural hair and nothing pisses me off more than when brothers and sisters get on their high horse hating on those who straighten their hair.

Just as we choose to go natural they choose to straighten. It's their decision, not yours or anyone elses'.

Be careful preaching atop that pedastool

Black Women; do you have too many naps in the kitchen?

Just shut up.

Black Women; do you have too many naps in the kitchen?

I'm a happy napptural and have been since 2001, but I'm still kind of dumbfound about your question. It's really not a well put together question, just a bunch of ranting. Any how, you go ahead and good luck with that. BTW, you might also want to check out a place called nappturality.com, there you will find no shortage of sista's happy to be nappy.

I have a syntheic half wig, a sensationnel hair product. I want to wear it, it's really nappy.?

How do I straighten it.

I have a syntheic half wig, a sensationnel hair product. I want to wear it, it's really nappy.?

Just type in wig care on the web. There are tons of sites that will help you. I read one where if you curl your hair with plastic rollers and then gently run hot water on it it will go back to its original set.

I have a syntheic half wig, a sensationnel hair product. I want to wear it, it's really nappy.?

You should ask Imus this question! LOL!!!

I need good answers!!!?

hey, im a 17 yr old white male. i am trying to grow out my hair to look like:

http://www.virginmedia.com/microsites/si...

now my hair is like:

http://www.matrixhaircare.co.uk/medias/s...

*note: my hair isnt THAT curly but its nappy on the side and wavy up top*

my hair is weird tho... the back of my head has decently straight hair, the top of my head has wavy hair, and what i most hate is that the side of my head has frizzy nappy hair that frustrates me

as of now, my hair is about a little over an inch long all around my head (like in the pic). my questions are:

how can i speed up the process of growth?

how can i make the nappy hair straight?

and is there any key tips to help me out on my way to growing my hair??

im thinking about getting my hair chemically straight in weeks??. but lemme know ANYTHING!! lol. And, to lighten my hair from black to dark brown, does the lemon juice in the sun remedy work?

I need good answers!!!?

Nothing really makes your hair grow faster besides getting sick. But thats not really all that fun so... Just let your hair grow out for a few months. It will grow but it may take a bit of time(roughly one month per half in of hair). Just try to keep it healthy. If you want your hair straight you could try to use products but you would be better off using a straightening iron. My friend got her hair chemically straightened and it didn't really do anything. I wouldnt use lemmon juice on your hair just because the color tends to be really uneven when you do it. If you really want it you should just get it done at a hair dresser.

I need good answers!!!?

ok for one don't go to yahoo answers!!!!It's just stupid!

I need good answers!!!?

don't cut it for a while for it is just a little longer then that one pic of how you want it then print that pic and take it in to the hiar styest and have her do your hair like that.

I need good answers!!!?

Read this people thought i was advertising but i wasn't DUMB!!!!!!

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...

well anyways that stuff should help i am using it right now and it works

I need good answers!!!?

To speed the process of growth avoid daily washing your hair, overly washing will result in draining the moister from your hair and will lengthen the process of growth. Restrict yourself to washing only once a week.

Consider taking the hair nails and skin pills/tablets abaiable in holland and barrat, provides the vitamins and protein for hair to speed up the growth.

I used PINK creme daily on my hair before straightening it, this is meant to increase the growth of hair and did it for me quite quickly.

As for colour, if your considering getting your hair chemically straight do not DYE your hair, the chemicals will react.

Chemical straightening looks great when you first have it done but I have heard rumous that the risk is it results in permanent hair loss over time.

To prevent your hair from going wavy, when you come out of the shower having washed your hair, fold up a towel and stick in the microwave for around 3 minites, until its piping steaming hot. Then wrap it around your head, the warmth of the towel will flatten your hair and taim the frizz.A stylist recommended this technique to me, Iv tried it and it works great.

Try products like frizz eaze aswel, desgined to taim the frizz.

Can I use a curly perm over my already relaxed hair?

I am an 18 yr old African American. I've been perming my hair for about 5 years. After I get a perm I get new growth in 2 weeks later. My roots are really nappy and hard to manage in between perms, braids, and traxs.

I was interested in getting a curly perm. It looks really nice and managable. Is it okie to use a curly perm even though I've been using rgular relaxers for so long?

Can I use a curly perm over my already relaxed hair?

wait a month

Can I use a curly perm over my already relaxed hair?

I permed over an old perm and my hair is breaking off. So be careful.

Can I use a curly perm over my already relaxed hair?

No you cannot right now. You would have to wait for your hair to grow completely out which takes about a year or so.

If you were to give yourself a curly with your pre-relaxed hair, it will fall out.

If don Imus was black would it be ok for him to call the Rutgers team "nappy headed hos"??

I think that i would not!!! For the people that say that rappers say it every day, they don't directly criticize 1 person or a group of people they just talk about what they see in every day life. I also think that there are somethings that black people say about black people that are funny that white people can say about black people that would be funny to but Imus crossed the line. first of all if you look at the rutgers team every body on there team had nice neat hair and they all were in college so i dont consider the team "hoes" so Imus was wrong there. then he said that they had Tattoos and once agian none of them had tattoos so he was wrong agian. Imus and Mcguirk also refered to the team as the Toronto raptors and the Memphis grizzles so i took that as if he was calling the team animals. I didn't find any part of that funny and i have a great since of humor so i want 2 know why shouldn't Imus have got fired????

If don Imus was black would it be ok for him to call the Rutgers team "nappy headed hos"???

it would still be wrong..but it wouldn't have been a story

If don Imus was black would it be ok for him to call the Rutgers team "nappy headed hos"???

It wouldn't be ok morally, but societally it wouldn't make anyone upset.

Will a texture make my hair look like lil fizz from b2k?

well..im a african american guy with long hair its its not unmanagable but i would like for it to be curly and fine looking something like lil fizz from b2k i would usually get a relaxer when it getz extremely nappy but i havent had one in 6 months i want my have to have texture like this

%26lt;img src="http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y2... align="center"%26gt;

%26lt;img src="http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y2... align="center"%26gt;

%26lt;img src="http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y2... align="center"%26gt;

Will a texture make my hair look like lil fizz from b2k?

Don't get a texurizer or relaxer. ladies like guys that are natural. Anyways to get your hair nice condition it for a long long time. Then rinse the conditioner out. Use the John Freida relaxing creme and some moisturizing gel and your hair should be nice and smooth.

Will a texture make my hair look like lil fizz from b2k?

lol to tell you the truth you probaly will never behable to get you hair like Lil Fizz...the reason why? Because you are black! unless you are mixed with asain(like fizz),spanish,or indian(like fizz) you will not behable to do that=) And how you said your hair gets rly nappy ye its not going to work Report It

Am i using too much hair products?

i have long hair and if i dont put any product in it after i wash it

it gets ugly and puffy and super frizzy even after i use products on my hair it dries and there is still some frizz in it. i dont want to straighten it because it ends up all nappy looking.

first when i wash my hair i use herbal esences defunkify [the green bottle] but not every single time i wash my hair, then after i use herbal esences totally twisted shampoo, after since i have some blonde highlights i use blonde expressions conditioner and rinse it, after i use another conditioner but i always change it everytime i wash my hair. after i leave my hair in the towel for a while, then i comb it with a wide tooth comb and first i put garnier frutis curl and shine leave in conditioner, then totally twisted gel, after a little bit of bed head control freak serum, and finally some samy curl defining mousse.

am i using too much products in my hair?

does anyone know what i can use to control my frizz?

Am i using too much hair products?

Just a little too much product. Just use:

Shampoo

Conditioner

Leave in conditioner (if you hair is super dry)

serum or mousse

Do you use a diffuser. That helps with defining the curls by drying your hair (no heat is needed though) and it controls the frizz.

Am i using too much hair products?

erm wow how do you have the time

I have super frizzy hair, frizz ezze is good to use insted of all them shampoos and conditionars.

I would definatly keep the garnier frutis curl it's good.

Am i using too much hair products?

What I do is I put a lot of the same grease in my hair after I wash it......So that way my hair doesn't get to much chemicals in it....

Can any gurl give me a clue on what to do on my hair.?

i am a girl that likes to look nice and i cant think of a clue on what to do on my hair and people keep asking why do i always have the same hair style on! can someone help me think of what to do i have nappy hair also. i hate braids i love ponytails but i cant do a ponytail everyday. can u help me think of a cute hairstyle?

Can any gurl give me a clue on what to do on my hair.?

Get a perm

Can any gurl give me a clue on what to do on my hair.?

How about a french roll. You could leave a few curls down around your face, and add some pretty hair pins. It would be beautiful.

Can any gurl give me a clue on what to do on my hair.?

well mayybe you should actually let it down. i h8 it when gurls never put their hair down when its wayy more pretty down. if its down you could straighten, crimp, curl, and do way more when its down. also you could have it halfback. or a sidepony! GOOD LUCK!

Can any gurl give me a clue on what to do on my hair.?

Maybe you should try braiding it while it's still damp and create waves, when it's dry take it down and put half of it up with a pretty barrette. Also, you could try bangs or a set of clip-in highlights to jazz up a dressy pony tail. Buy styling products and sirt in front a a mirror and exsperiment, look at celebrities and buy a hair styling book. Try the selection at www.booksamillion.com , cheap and very helpful!

How do you do your hair like this??

A lot of people do it this way. Its like they make it curly they get Gel and put it in there hair and squeeze it together and it gets dry and curly. But when I try to do it it get all really nappy how do you do it.

How do you do your hair like this??

ah I do that to my hair like that all the time. I shower, towel dry it, put mousse or gel in it, and flip my head over %26amp; hairspray it. You can then run a blowdryer over it so that it doesn't frizz.

How do you do your hair like this??

your hair might be too naturally straight, you could try a shampoo and hair gel meant to create curly hair. I like Matrix they have shampoo conditioner and product.

How do you do your hair like this??

u need to first of all get the styling perm gel..they usually do it after they did perm their hair in salons, perming hair doesnt mean it will gives u the effect until u put the styling gel on it..

When ur hair is wet, take a small amount of gel, using ur index finger, take a small part of ur hair, and twist it around ur index finger like a swirl, do it repeatedly and then squeeze the lump of swirled hair together(let go of ur index finger),crumped that lot of hair together, and u will get that effect.

How do you do your hair like this??

I put gel in my hair and scrunch it together from top to bottom. I also spray it with hairspray while I squeeze. I just keep squeezing until the hair starts sticking to my hands. That's when I know its starting to dry. Any type of gel works, but for some reason mine turns out better with hairspray in a can rather than the bottle.

How do you do your hair like this??

try using aussie extra volume leave in conditioner (mousse)

..shake it up first, then squeeze it in the palm of your hand and scrunch your hair up

(you could also try using paper towels to scrunch if your hands bring on too much frizz)

How do you do your hair like this??

You're using too much gel, only use about the size of a quarter for your whole head. Once you scrunch it once, leave it alone...don't go back and refix and rescrunch.

How do you do your hair like this??

EVERYONE HAS A HAIR STYLE THAT FITS THEM BEST, YOU JUST NEED TO FIND WHICH ONES IS BEST FOR YOU JUST BECAUSE STYLE LOOKS GOOD ON "SALLY" DOESNT MEAN THAT IT WILL LOOK GOOD ON "BETTY" DIFFERENT FACES , DIFFERENT TEXTURES OF HAIR, DIFFERENT ETHNIC, ETC........DONT BE A REPLICA OF SOMEONE ELSE CREATE YOUR OWN STYLE

How do you do your hair like this??

I have naturally wavy hair and I use mousse not gel to scrunch my hair. Gel tends to weigh it down.

How do you do your hair like this??

I know exactly what you mean! If your hair is naturally really straight then it will be nearly impossible to create that specific curly look, because the gel only acts as a hardening device, not as a curling device. My hair is 100% naturally straight, and there is no way that I can create that look, without making my hair look ratty and nasty, so instead, I create an even hotter look with a simple 1" thick curling iron and about 15 minutes a day. I create soft ringlets that end up looking like Jessica Simpson's hair or Kate Hudson's, instead of the hard, crunchy curls. Believe me, they look way better in the end! Hope this helped

How do you do your hair like this??

Try it when your hair is wet.

How do you do your hair like this??

its called scrunching

How do you do your hair like this??

cucumber hah now i get some points

How do you do your hair like this??

Add a tbs of epsom salt to a small spray bottle of warm water and mist your hair add a quarter sized dollop of curl enhancing mouse to your hair, and tada you have fabulose beachy waves.

I am an expert hair braider and just moved to LA. How do I start work as no salons seem to be hiring

I have been making micro corn rows, twists, rasta-twists and micro individual braids for 10 years. I see people including celebrities on T.V every day with poorly braided hair and it just grieves my styling instincts. I braid real fast also and my fees are very good. How is it though that people are not interested in salon quality braids and seem to prefer the nappy home options that fuzz over in no time? I am always being asked where I make mine, and even though I tell then I did, it's either they don't believe me, or assume it'll cost a whole lot. It is a good investment though as it saves you a lot of time in the morning and I keep mine for up to 3 months each time. If you know anyone ready to look properly coiffed African braid style, do let me know.

I am an expert hair braider and just moved to LA. How do I start work as no salons seem to be hiring braiders?

Congratulations on your move . Hope everything works out for you . Go to ALL shops with a perfect resume ,and this includes pictures . Buy business cards and leave them at bridal shops , or hand them out when your at a restaurant or coffee shop . Braiding is the one art of styling that i couldn't ace . I am so envious , but I sincerely wish you all the best . Don't give up , even if you have to take a job that doesn't involve hair , this way you can get fellow employees and patrons to come to you , even if you got to their house .. Again , God Bless you on your new adventure and many many happy clients to you !!!!!!

I am an expert hair braider and just moved to LA. How do I start work as no salons seem to be hiring braiders?

what you should do if find the studio's out in LA and do hair for the star's if your that good.. Im sure it would make you $$ there and more clients good luck

I am an expert hair braider and just moved to LA. How do I start work as no salons seem to be hiring braiders?

The best thing I can tell you is that in many salons they might require a type of license, certificate or degree in the field of cosmetology. It lets them know that you're qualified to work for them. And generally they require that you know more than braiding, but want to know you can do more than one type of hair style. In most salons, people want their hair cut, or styled.

Or, you could even consider opening your own business and start out by making it popular by "word of mouth". You advertise, do one persons hair, they're so satisfied they tell a friend, and make it clear you want to be referred if your customers are satisfied...

A lot of hair salons will do basic braiding, but not all are so great at specific types of hair styles. There are different types of hair stylists. Those who work in regular salons, hollywood hair stylists, and those specific hair styles might be more popular in a hollywood setting. If you want to make it up there, check out online (google it) see how you can get where you want to be. "How do I become a hollywood hair stylist".

Or, consider what target of people will most likely want the hair styles you have to offer. If you're talented in a specific type, what majority of people usually care for this hair style? Consider the area you're trying to find work in. In Los Angeles for instance, there is a great deal Hispanic/Asian population. Some African American, some European American, (ect). But it varies in different areas.

Sometimes specific hair types work with different styles. I'd love to have simple braids but my hair isn't made for braiding. In fact, it looks like crap. So there are a lot of things you have to consider when you want to apply a talent to a job or future career.

What you should figure out is the best way to apply your talent and turn it into a career, if you wish to make a career out of it. There are A LOT of successful hair stylists working in Hollywood, and other places. I think living in California is the best place to be since fashion and style are most emphasized.

And cosmetics are very popular in America in general. But I think the closer you get to hollywood, the more people might care about cosmetics, fashion, hair styling (et cetera). So you already know you're probably in a good area to get started.

Consider your surroundings. If you want to open a business, you may need a type of degree which isn't too hard to get. You could start out at a regular salon, or do a simple program to get your certificate in cosmetology so you can get a basic job, work on a business certificate or degree and open up your own business. Sometimes people even do it in their own homes as personal hair stylists, and are referred through advertisement or word of mouth by satisfied customers.

There's a lot of ways you can do it. And remember, sometimes it's not always what you know, it's who you know. Do you have connections with hair stylists? I'd look into contacting a few, visiting a few popular salons and even asking around. Though they're probably not used to getting asked questions, but it might help. Look around and ask if different salons have open positions and what the requirements are. There are always job openings.

You can even try job sites and list the specific job you're looking for and set up a resume. The internet is a GREAT tool! Well, good luck!

How stupid is your comment. You first say they can't grow hair and then you said they have "nappy hair". Hair is hair, no matter what the texture. So in your own ignorance and stupidity you are contradicting your ownself.

Whats the sense in black girls being in the hair section when their hair cant grow?

And I love it... my hair is natural, beautiful and every other nationality wishes they could have what i have... the lips, the hips, and the afro picks...

why else would you have taken your time out to make this question to gain attention from Black Queens...

Whats the sense in black girls being in the hair section when their hair cant grow?

First of all, your comments are not nice. In second place, you are also wrong, I have known many afro-american girls with beautiful and healthy hair. And I'm also sure Indian girls are not obsessed with being white either, why would they?Look at all white man has done to them. Why waste your time being racist? We are all the same in God's eyes.

P.S. Learn to love so you too can be loved.

Whats the sense in black girls being in the hair section when their hair cant grow?

Whats the sense in black girls being in the hair section when their hair cant grow?

I viewed ALL your questions because I couldn't understand this question and your accompaning comment.

Evidently, you are prejudiced, rude, and have a lot of learning and maturing to do.

Have a Good Evening.

Whats the sense in black girls being in the hair section when their hair cant grow?

haha! you are foolish. hair grows dummy, even if it is nappy. black girls with extensions = mothers who cannot do hair. there ya go.

are you like 10 or something?

Whats the sense in black girls being in the hair section when their hair cant grow?

Takes one to know one.

NAPSTER! LOL!

Whats the sense in black girls being in the hair section when their hair cant grow?

Actually "nappy" hair does grow, hair textures take different things to keep them healthy. Hair with tighter curls, need alot of moisture, so it won't become brittle and break off. So it logically is growing, but at the same time the hair is growing, it's also breaking off. So certain textures, take certain amounts of time to keep it healthy.

Whats the sense in black girls being in the hair section when their hair cant grow?

yes some of us do have nappy hair lol and if you knew anything nappy hair does grow how the hell do you think black guys with long braids got their hair lol

Whats the sense in black girls being in the hair section when their hair cant grow?

Well my hair can get cut over and over and it grows right back to being long. Wow you're one heck of a racist aren't you?? HMMM

We don't all have nappy hair either! Don't you remember when MASTER wanted to rape my ancestor. When this occurred over and over against our own will it created Mulatto, meaning some of us like myself people tend to say we have a little INDIAN in us!! Ha Ha LOL you're funny!!

I need a good site on African American Male different hairstyles?

i am an African American male, and i have nappy/kinky hair..i want to get a cut soon and i want to try something new and creative...i want to find a site that shows different hairstyles for African American males.

I need a good site on African American Male different hairstyles?

pics of some haircuts/styles ^^^^^^

I need a good site on African American Male different hairstyles?

The FRO is the only thing you need to know

I need a good site on African American Male different hairstyles?

You don't have that many options. Afro, bald, or high and tight. You can shave some cool designs on the side of your hair but that might not be appropriate depending on your age and place of employment. The best thing you can do is find a hair salon that caters to black clients and they will have brochures and magazines with pictures to go through. My hair stylest told me that there's a seperate course for African hair--and many haven't completed it.

I need a good site on African American Male different hairstyles?

well go on google and type in hair dressers foe males and you will have the answers

My baby girl has hair down there?

my little girl has had hair down there from about 7 mth shes under a doc but had no answers its not a great amount and its not that noticible but i can see it when i change her nappy has any one else had this problem

My baby girl has hair down there?

When I had my daughter, a few days after we went home, she was bleeding down there. I freaked out. The doctor said that it was just becasue of her hormones and mone were still in her system. It should go away. If there is nothing that your doctor can find you should either consult with another doctor and have her hormone levels checked. I am pretty sure that this is all it is.

Good Luck and God Bless!

My baby girl has hair down there?

i have never heard of that before

My baby girl has hair down there?

No I have never heard of this.

My baby girl has hair down there?

I have never heard of that before.

My baby girl has hair down there?

Sounds like she has hormonal issues, obviously a doctor will be the best thing.

My baby girl has hair down there?

Is it just like peach fuzz? sometimes babies have "fuzz" on their backs or on their body .. sometimes its even dark.. but it goes away.

My baby girl has hair down there?

I wouldnt worry about it my daughter had 1 dark hair and I could notice it, just leave it, everyone is different.

My baby girl has hair down there?

i dont suppose its a big deal i think it will fall out some babies are born different from others

My baby girl has hair down there?

It's probably not a problem, just hormones. I used to babysit for a 6-year-old boy who had hair on his legs (I can only assume he had hair elsewhere too) and his voice was changing already! Just check with your doc but it's probably just extra hormones and it might be correctable.

My baby girl has hair down there?

I would talk to your doctor. A lot of times, babies can have their mother's hormones in them when they are born and exhibit signs in their bodies that we would only associate with post-puberty girls or women. If you don't get an answer from your doctor, seek a second opinion.

My baby girl has hair down there?

its perfectly normal, dont worry.

My baby girl has hair down there?

If it had been from birth wouldn't have been as strange but seeing as it had been from 7 months gives reason for concern. I know of a little girl who started puberty at 18 months old and all she needed was a pill everyday to stop the progressing of it until she was 11 years old. If this is the case, than it really shouldn't take that much to sort it out. If this is not the problem, then im afraid i am stumped. Hope it gets sorted. Good luck.

My baby girl has hair down there?

Do they look like pubic hairs, or just faint thin fair hairs? I've never heard of that before. Just while we're on the subject, I know about someone who cut their hand when they were young, and they had to have a skin transplant from their pucic skin area (before they started puberty) and when they began growing pubic hair, it grew on their hand too.

My baby girl has hair down there?

Do you mean pubic hair or the peach fuzz stuff? Pubic hair would be darker and coarse.

Everyone has the peach fuzz kind you just don't notice it because you are not cleaning the area like you do a baby's.

If you do think it is like pubic hair and not just fuzz even a lot of fuzz would be softer where pubic hair is not I would see another doctor. there is such a thing as precocious puberty which just means puberty too early and they can stop it. They have a website called toosoon.com you could go there and see if any other people's children were as young as your or at least get info.

My daughter is going through puberty early she is 8.5 and just starting to get hair etc. but I was only 9 when I started my period. My sister told me about this site, it was very informative though my daughter is just following in mommy's footsteps unfortunately, I was hoping they would be older than I was.

My baby girl has hair down there?

it's not really pubic hair like you get in puberty...

I have seen it, on many babies... totallly normal...

does she also have hairy legs? nape of the neck? small of the back? .... sometimes genetics... I'm hispanic, I was born with lots of hair, still have it... so when my daughter was born w/ a moderate amount, I was grateful :)

my pediatrician said not to worry either, then I told her about myself, she laughed and said "seriously, don't worry - you may just have to let her shave her legs younger than you'd like to!"...... I love my Dr. :)

My baby girl has hair down there?

Probably hormone problems...I'd have another doctor check her out!! Get some blood work done!!

My baby girl has hair down there?

my daughter does, she is now 5 yrs old, and in fact she is quite hairy everywhere.

the peadiatrician wanted to get her screened for all sorts of genetic syndromes, as she also has a cleft palate!

But basically after talking to the genetises she just thinks it's down to her family history, as all my husbands side are very hairy!

My younger son is now showing signs of being hairy compaired to the normal child too!

My baby girl has hair down there?

My baby was born quite hairy, not down below but she had dark brown hair on her arms, back, cheeks %26amp; some on her legs. No one brought this up as being abnormal, %26amp; it was quite noticeable. We put it down to her being about 4 weeks early. She's now 10 months %26amp; the hair is now light %26amp; like fuzz so you can't really tell she has it but i admit i was concerned.

Maybe its from the mothers hormones during pregnancy but i wouldn't worry %26amp; as she gets older it'll probably disappear on its own.

My baby girl has hair down there?

have you or the daddy ever been on any extra hormone drugs.. some type of heart meds that help patients fight off the rejection of a new heart.. some patients end up with abnormal amounts of hair. check your families medical background for any meds that could have been passed down to you and your baby.. she could have recieved this abnormality thru you or daddy.. donot worry she'll be fine.. she has a step up on all the other girls. okay...lol

My baby girl has hair down there?

like pubic hair!!?

ALREADY

=O

What do I do to get my hair into an afro?

My hair is pretty long and curly. Like black, curly, kinky, and all that(but not nappy). That may be because I'm black, but who knows. :D

Anyway, I've never had an afro before and I wanted to know how I can get it in that style. What materials will I need and how will I use them.

What do I do to get my hair into an afro?

I just went natural and my hair is very soft and curly. If I wanna get it round like an afro I just part it in sections and comb my hair out. It gets big and round like an afro, well a curly afro, but its still cute. lol. If that does not work, try a rod set, you know, those little skinny rollers? that may give you an afro.

What do I do to get my hair into an afro?

tease it

What do I do to get my hair into an afro?

Roll it when it's wet with the tiniest curlers you can find. (this works best with shorter hair) Sit under the hair dryer or let it air dry.

America' Obession with Skin Colour & Hair Texture.?

that's so true. In the black community, for a girl, you must look or be biracial to be considered beautiful. To me, that's some bull. I'm black %26amp; i'm beautiful. I have nappy hair %26amp; black skin. I'm proud. I'm tired of the media. I'm not trying to offend anyone but the truth is the media considered white the standard of beauty. I'm not white. I'll never be white. what i'm confused about is why a lot of black people make fun of michael jackson %26amp; lil' kim turning white. i'm going to say it. BLACK PEOPLE WANT TO BE WHITE. it's the truth. whether you like it or not.

America' Obession with Skin Colour %26amp; Hair Texture.?

Wow! I'm black also and I really wish I was as comfortable in my skin as you seem to be. And you're right about the media influence. Just commercials, for example, mostly seem targeted at white people. Like the shampoo and hair color commercials always just had white women up until a few years ago when they put black women like Halle Berry (sorry, i know she's biracial)or Beyonce. And what's up with Pantene making a big deal out of creating a special line of shampoo, etc.for African-American hair? Just a thought...

Anyway, I live in the South but when I was growing up I always had problems with people saying that I'm trying to "act white" or "be white" just because I spoke proper English (don't ask me how that happened) and also had girlfriends who happened to be white. It was never that I tried to make myself fit in with white people (at least not when I was younger) but they accepted me so there you go. Besides that, most of the black kids I went to school with got into trouble and my mom didn't want that for me so she protected me, which I appreciate now that I'm older. I was just a bookworm even before starting school at age 4 and then a computer nerd (no offense to anyone).

As an adult, any black friends I have now just accept me the way I am. My best friend is white and we have been friends for 15 years. Race has never been an issue between us; only sometimes an issue for others who see us together. I was her maid of honor and my mom and I were the only black people at her wedding. True, slang comes out sometimes when I'm around people I know but when I'm at work or in another setting where I'm dealing with white people (i.e. interviews, business transactions), it's like I'm trying to prove that "Hey,I may be black but I fit into your world, too." Anyway, I mainly wanted to say that I'm both impressed and inspired by your confidence and I can only hope that I'll get there someday. If you happen to have any advice, please let me know. Thanks!

America' Obession with Skin Colour %26amp; Hair Texture.?

OK.

America' Obession with Skin Colour %26amp; Hair Texture.?

i'm white and I'm happy being white.

I wish everyone could be happy with who they are.

America' Obession with Skin Colour %26amp; Hair Texture.?

Burp.

America' Obession with Skin Colour %26amp; Hair Texture.?

well, I am white, and am trying to turn black..........can ya hook a brotha up?

America' Obession with Skin Colour %26amp; Hair Texture.?

America's evil.

America' Obession with Skin Colour %26amp; Hair Texture.?

I think People want to be someone that is the majority

If the group or culture was all green people will want to be that as well

Black in the USA was raise around the majority now they want to be them

and the Spanish as well as the Asia in the USA

Beside that people are people no matter who they are

America' Obession with Skin Colour %26amp; Hair Texture.?

this is a statement..

America' Obession with Skin Colour %26amp; Hair Texture.?

Not all want that. Some feel just like you and love the skin they are in. But I do agree that the media is awful and is dangerous for our young people, especially girls.

America' Obession with Skin Colour %26amp; Hair Texture.?

I think some blacks, men and women, are down right gorgeous. Whether I know that they're biracial or not. Not that it matters...but yup. You're born the way you are for a reason and I'm glad you embrace it. Screw the media!!

America' Obession with Skin Colour %26amp; Hair Texture.?

I'm just happy 2 B ME! I love me... I really do gurl! 鈾?br>America' Obession with Skin Colour %26amp; Hair Texture.?

Do you feel better now? I'm sure your very beautiful, and it's what you do with it that makes a difference. Besides, who listens to the media, they don't dictate what I like and I'm glad you feel the same.

America' Obession with Skin Colour %26amp; Hair Texture.?

Be you. You're black, beautiful, and proud of it. Forget what the white establishment thinks.

America' Obession with Skin Colour %26amp; Hair Texture.?

I do not mind being White, but a lot of people stare and look at me in my neighborhood because I am White and not Latino. I love being White because as a White woman most people will say, "Oh, what nice skin, hair, and eyes you have." The thing I do not like about being White is the stereotyping, but I know that people get that no matter what race they are.

America' Obession with Skin Colour %26amp; Hair Texture.?

there are 2 sides to that story. i grew up with cousins like you, they always made fun of my light skin, hated my hair, insisted that i wanted to be white, i wasn't black enough to date black men or dance well. because of their ignorance I've never been apart of either side of my family, not good enough for either side just because of my skin color. I'm glad i grew up and distanced myself from angry people like you. stop blaming the media for your weakness. if you were so happy being black you would not have hated on other blacks, no matter their shade.

America' Obession with Skin Colour %26amp; Hair Texture.?

Your hair maybe nappy ,but your soul is happy (LOL)

Right -on little sister (smile)

America' Obession with Skin Colour %26amp; Hair Texture.?

GIRL MICHEAL JACKSON IS CONFUSED BUT HES A LEGEND AND SECOND OF ALL BEING WHITE OR BIRACIAL HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH YOUR SKIN COLOUR OR HAIR TEXTURE. BOTH OF MY PARENTS ARE BLACK ONE IS BROWN AND THE OTHER IS DARKER I AM MY MOTHERS COMPLEXION BROWN BUT I HAVE MY DADS GOOD HAIR, THICK AND COARSE. MY NIECE IS DAMN NEAR WHITE BUT BOTH OF HER PARENTS ARE BLACK AND SHE HAS LONG BLACK PRETTY HAIR AND MY SON IS LIGHTER THAN ME. SO IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH SOMEONE WANTING TO BE WHITE ITS ALL ABOUT YOUR GENES.

America' Obession with Skin Colour %26amp; Hair Texture.?

girl whats wrong with you....not all black people want to be white you prob do but not me...I'm very proud of what i look like i love my skin color ..i would not trade being black for nothing in this world.....if god wanted me to be white im pretty sure i would have came out that way....that's a understatement

America' Obession with Skin Colour %26amp; Hair Texture.?

Michael Jackson has a skin disease that makes his skin light...I don't think he would choose that if he had a choice!

鈾モ櫏We Love You Michael!!!!鈾モ櫏

America' Obession with Skin Colour %26amp; Hair Texture.?

WELL I'M BLACK AND NO THE HELL I DON'T WANT TO BE WHITE ANY THING OTHER THEN ME BEING WHITE IT'S NOT LIKE I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH WHITE PEOPLE IT'S JUST I DON'T WANT TO BE IT .I PROUD OF WHO I AM.AND I'M HAPPY THAT YOU ARE TO.

America' Obession with Skin Colour %26amp; Hair Texture.?

To answer your question yes you are considered beautiful more so if you have a more european look or anything that is not considered "black".

America' Obession with Skin Colour %26amp; Hair Texture.?

Not all Black people want to be white. I know I don't. The ones who do do not have a very good self image; they probably didn't have any older relatives to help them feel good about themselves or their Blackness. Unfortunately, some Blacks have allowed themselves to buy into the media's lies about white always being beautiful. Some not all.

HELP PLEASE! Hair-style please help!!?

That is a style of primping to some extent. That is baby oil,

regular conditioner maybe blueberry or juniper. The real

call here is to get it to shine, stay, and not be dry. Cut it

at local barber and bring a picture. A women's salon

usually has a salon for men expert for the husband's too.

Call ahead and say you want a late style, you will bring a

pic, and make an appointment. Tell them no coloring,

maybe a wash, or ask what you would really like.

Very important question to me. Please answer accurately.?

Egyptian. Mediterranean Caucasian. Origins in Turkey, Upper Egypt (south of the country, but north of Nubia, not black), and the Sinai Peninsula. Curly (not nappy) black hair, wide nose, thin upper and thicker lower lip, light brown skin (darker than tanned, but not mistakable for black), smallish forehead. Father and brother a very light brown, like tanned whites. Youngest brother slightly darker than them. If I have children with a very white woman, like a Nord, what is the chance that they will resemble darker or southern Europeans (Greeks, Italians, etc)?

Very important question to me. Please answer accurately.?

that is not something that can be predicted.

I HAVE REAlLY CURLY HAIR AND I HATE MY HAIR 2 BE sIMPLE I WaNT IT 2 "POP OUT"?

start french-braiding you hair directly above you left [or right] eye. french-braid it diagonally across your head till its at the base of your neck on the opposite side. put the rest in a side ponytail. it works really well [and looks really cute] w. curly hair.

Going natural(finally)?

Hey ,

im looking for some advice from one mixed

chick to anoda. This is the deal:Ive been trying to go natural for the

past few weeks and i just wind up using the straightener again... The

thing is my hair is naturally curly for those few minutes that its

wet...nd when it drys out...lol...My hair is the type 3b and because

of that i get varied results when i try to curl my hair..most are

nappy and some are well defined curls.I want well defined curls that

arent weighed down, puffy and nappy at the ends. The products i've

been using so far has been drying my hair out. Im looking for

something that can keep the curl and moisture too. So basically im jus

looking for some tips and products that can get the curl, maintain it

and keep it lookin fresh everyday of the week and something not 2

expensive!%26amp; if you can tell me ur day-2-day curl routine that would be

very helpful 2!

thanks

Going natural(finally)?

It takes a while for your hair to adjust to being natural (I'd say maybe several weeks). Do you shampoo everyday? That will dry out your hair...and also, a brush and curly hair is never a good mix. XD I have curly hair, and I just comb it before and after showers. I don't shampoo it everyday because it dries it out and looks frizzy. You should check out naturallycurly.com. They have a forum with tons of advice. There are many things you can do; it depends on how your hair responds to them. You just have to experiment. :) That site is a great start...it helped me alot.

Going natural(finally)?

Do you blow-dry your hair? If so, try using a diffuser. It will define the curls a lot =]. It you let it naturally dry, try a creme (not a gel or pomade because they'll get sticky and weigh your hair down) that is made to straighten hair.

Dealing wiht black hair?

im african american, my hair is short, nappy, y u know, how it usually is, but i dont know how to keep it well. what can i do to aid its growth....? and keep it healthy at the same time...?

Dealing wiht black hair?

well i don't know about the whole aid its growth thing. But to keep it healthy keep it moisturized. Sleep with your hair wrapped in a silk or satin scarf and avoid using alot of heat. If you relax it I would say stop that too because the chemicals kill your hair. If you can find one use natural shampoo and conditioners. I love the organix Coconut Milk line. Also stay away from Mineral oil and Petroleum products they stunt the hair's ability to grow and retain moisture.

Dealing wiht black hair?

I have hair breakage.?

I permed my hair about 2 1/2 months ago, and I burned some of my hair off w/ a hot comb at the same time, does anyone know if i can repair my hair could be health enough in a month in a half for another perm, cuz i can't stand wearing micro braids w/ my regular hair beeing nappy.

I have hair breakage.?

treat ur hair with hot oil treatment and deep conditioner coz it needs nourishment to reverse the damage caused. then mosturise and use less heat appliances to give it a break. it should b healthy by the next perm

I have hair breakage.?

you first have to get a hair cut and then make sure you moisturuze your hair.

I have hair breakage.?

you should get a good hair cut. go to an experienced hairstylist- tell her/him what you want and let them do what they have to. i'm guessing you're black, like me so i know it's not easy to go for a drastic cut BUT, if you have bad ends- it's probably your best option.

it's just hair, with good care, it will grow back better and healthier.

I have hair breakage.?

hair breakage is a problem for me too...my mom is a hair stylist and usually she gives me a deep conditioning to make my hair stronger...and if a perm damaged ur hair the last time, it may not be a good idea to perm it again becuz it may make ur hair worse..oh...and a deep conditioning cud make ur hair less nappy...believe me...i know nappy hair...lol.lemme know if this advice helps

I have hair breakage.?

Yes. Here u go

Hair mask

This is called a protein based hair mask

Mix one cup of water with one packet of unflavored keratin. You can buy this at any grocery store.

While you broil the water, u gently mix in the keratin.

Then you mix one teaspoon of honey, while it's still broiling

Then you mix a little milk as well.

Then u stop broiling the water and add one egg

Let cool until warm

Then apply to ur hair for 20 min

Rinse

Repeat 3 times a week

This remedy combines all the proteins to ur hair to make it super strong.

I have hair breakage.?

Hi,one golden rule,,,don't perm your hair!!

The badest things for hair is perming and bleaching.

There must be other ways to do something with your hair that you like.

There are anti brackage products on the marked, but those products contain silicones, and only ''glue'' the damaged hair.

Hair does NOT repair, once it is damaged,it stayes that way.

I should say,let it grow out and use natural products, that way you will have beautifull hair.

Greets,

Rohnny.
