that's so true. In the black community, for a girl, you must look or be biracial to be considered beautiful. To me, that's some bull. I'm black %26amp; i'm beautiful. I have nappy hair %26amp; black skin. I'm proud. I'm tired of the media. I'm not trying to offend anyone but the truth is the media considered white the standard of beauty. I'm not white. I'll never be white. what i'm confused about is why a lot of black people make fun of michael jackson %26amp; lil' kim turning white. i'm going to say it. Wow! I'm black also and I really wish I was as comfortable in my skin as you seem to be. And you're right about the media influence. Just commercials, for example, mostly seem targeted at white people. Like the shampoo and hair color commercials always just had white women up until a few years ago when they put black women like Halle Berry (sorry, i know she's biracial)or Beyonce. And what's up with Pantene making a big deal out of creating a special line of shampoo, etc.for African-American hair? Just a thought...
Anyway, I live in the South but when I was growing up I always had problems with people saying that I'm trying to "act white" or "be white" just because I spoke proper English (don't ask me how that happened) and also had girlfriends who happened to be white. It was never that I tried to make myself fit in with white people (at least not when I was younger) but they accepted me so there you go. Besides that, most of the black kids I went to school with got into trouble and my mom didn't want that for me so she protected me, which I appreciate now that I'm older. I was just a bookworm even before starting school at age 4 and then a computer nerd (no offense to anyone).
As an adult, any black friends I have now just accept me the way I am. My best friend is white and we have been friends for 15 years. Race has never been an issue between us; only sometimes an issue for others who see us together. I was her maid of honor and my mom and I were the only black people at her wedding. True, slang comes out sometimes when I'm around people I know but when I'm at work or in another setting where I'm dealing with white people (i.e. interviews, business transactions), it's like I'm trying to prove that "Hey,I may be black but I fit into your world, too." Anyway, I mainly wanted to say that I'm both impressed and inspired by your confidence and I can only hope that I'll get there someday. If you happen to have any advice, please let me know. Thanks!

I do not mind being White, but a lot of people stare and look at me in my neighborhood because I am White and not Latino. I love being White because as a White woman most people will say, "Oh, what nice skin, hair, and eyes you have." The thing I do not like about being White is the stereotyping, but I know that people get that no matter what race they are.

there are 2 sides to that story. i grew up with cousins like you, they always made fun of my light skin, hated my hair, insisted that i wanted to be white, i wasn't black enough to date black men or dance well. because of their ignorance I've never been apart of either side of my family, not good enough for either side just because of my skin color. I'm glad i grew up and distanced myself from angry people like you. stop blaming the media for your weakness. if you were so happy being black you would not have hated on other blacks, no matter their shade.

To answer your question yes you are considered beautiful more so if you have a more european look or anything that is not considered "black".

Not all Black people want to be white. I know I don't. The ones who do do not have a very good self image; they probably didn't have any older relatives to help them feel good about themselves or their Blackness. Unfortunately, some Blacks have allowed themselves to buy into the media's lies about white always being beautiful. Some not all.
