Do you think it is in an African Americans phyche that straight long hair is more beautiful than nat

do you think so?

i mean, there are plenty of african american women out there who have natural hair (like me!) but even so, some press it out so that it can be straight. but dont you think that back in the day when whites mis-educated blacks, they put it in their minds that "nappy" hair is ugly....basically any feature of the black person is ugly and any feature of the white person is beautiful.

it just seems to me that it is in a lot of black peoples minds that "nappy" hair is ugly, and even some make fun of each other for having dark skin. i think it's sad, although we they dont realize what is going on or what they are doing.

and it goes the same for wanting to wear weave so your hair will look longer and wearing color contacts. i personally believe that being your natural self is a lot better than covering it up with hair die, chemicals, and contacts.

who's with me?

and i know that some white people wear weaves too!

I just think that people have a hard time seeing themselves as beautiful. If you have curly hair you wish for sleek straight hair. if you have straight hair you think it's boring and wish it was curly. Natural beauty is so much better than the artificial. Enjoy yourself, and your "natural hair"

i str8ten my hair because its harder to manage so called "nappy hair"

and it suits my features better

My hair is naturally curly (im mixed) I only straighten once in a while. I dont know if eveyone thinks long and straight is better. But I think theres beauty in every race. You know, sometimes straight hair is 'in' sometimes its curly hair. Maybe its just a fashion thing...

I love being natural, I think its sexy. All I need some serum for my hair and lip gloss and I'm good =)

I don't put perms in my hair anymore, but I still wear it in a variety of styles. I love it natural... but I'm in school right now, and time is a factor. If you look at my 360, you can see it natural.. and some other styles as well. But I agree with you... natural hair is drop dead gorgeous, and I love it!

I love my natral hair. I'm sorry but Black women don't look right with the permed hair. it looks so fake and over-processed. It gets on my nerves that Black women countinously put that mess in there hair......I like being natural and I get teased for it a lot at school because my hair is short like a boys. now I havebraids and my hair is growing back fine and healthy.....I 'm glad that I an go swimming and wet my hai runlike some people.

the prettiest hair i have seen on a black lady was the long thick curls.. the spiral ones.... but you could be on to something.. i remember back in the day.. i was a child in the 70's and the only thing they had was a curling iron they put on the stove..now the thing that fastante me is so many people in each culture trying to be like the other..or could it be that color is no longer becoming a issue..i remember when it was in style for a white person to have a Afro.. the 70's again..and i my self have been thinking of getting some hair extensions..but for some.. the natural look it best..they can pull it off to wear it looks glamous on them

IF BLACK WOMEN WANT TO STRAIGHTEN THEIR HAIR, SO BE IT. ISN'T PART OF HAVING RIGHTS THE FREEDOM TO CHOOSE? SO WHY WOULD YOU JUDGE THOSE THAT CHOOSE NOT TO STAY NATURAL? EVERYONE HAS THEIR REASONS.

INDIA ARIE SAID "I AM NOT MY HAIR." SO YOU SHOULDN'T ANALYZE AND JUDGE PEOPLE BY WHAT THEY CHOOSE TO DO WITH THEIR HAIR.

Black women can wear their hair any way they choose. We can straighten it, perm it, braid it, lok it, dye it, weave it, wear it natural, or shave it all off. And we still look damned fine!

All other races do all sorts of things with their hair and nobody messes with them about it. It's a woman's perogative to change her look whenever she feels like it. Black people putting each other down about something as trivial as hairstyle choices is just divisive douchebaggery. AND THE LAST THING THAT BLACK PEOPLE NEED IS MORE DIVISIVE BEHAVIOR.

Black women with relaxed hair are not trying to be "white" - no more than non-black people with perms are trying to be "black". Nor is it "unnatural". It's just a hairstyle.

I'm with you on this. It is for sure that many Blacks are still not as proud of themselves and their features as they should be. I and my niece have been turned away from Black owned and run hair salons because of our natural hair on different occasions and at different salons. And the people that did so didn't see anything wrong with that either! I mostly wear my hair natural although I sometimes texturize it for convenience. I have heard many Black women talk about so-called good and bad hair and it makes me sad. We've come a long way but there's a much longer road ahead for many of us. Good question.

I aint witchu at all. Sorry, but we have our own opinions in the way we look. In which you do not controll. My father is black, but my birth mother is Native American. So of course, i got black people's hair. My hair color is a real light brown. I call it honey brown/blonde. But i do still press out my hair, get relaxers, and also get perms. I have never really been down with all dat frizzy/tangly lookin hair. Which is also the type dat you claim you have. So to answer your question... no i am not with you on this one sista.

Do you think it is in an African Americans phyche that straight long hair is more beautiful than natural hair?

I won't even bother to argue, I'm tired of hearing this crap. YOU are the racist one for comparing blacks to whites!! What on earth does having a relaxer have to do with white people?? Lots of white people have curly or wavy hair!

I have RELAXED hair. But I find nothing against my natural "nappy" texture. I actually didn't relax my hair for months, I was thinking of going natural. TO ME they are just frickin hairstyles. Not "black pride" or sh*t.

Yeah, I'm sure Dr. Martin L. King would be sooo proud that THIS is what we are complaining about now!!

Although I am a white women, I know what you mean. One of my best friends is dark skinned (black) and she is so insecure.. She is SO beautiful, but the media has brainwashed her to think otherwise, it's terrible. Since I am a natural blonde with green eyes, I find her natural african hair and dark eyes/skin gorgeous!

But I agree, being natural looks better over all.

Do you think it is in an African Americans phyche that straight long hair is more beautiful than natural hair?

i do think there are a lot of black women(not all) who are brainwashed into thinking straight hair is more attrative than their own natual hair.it is really sad to see.they don,t mind putting their health at risk just to have that long hair look.they spending 1000's of $/鎷?trying to acheive something what will never happen.it looks crap and is false for blackwomen's hair.it has a lot to do with laziness.some say their hair is to hard to comb. straighting, perming, relaxing, weave, will evenually damage the hair beyond repair.and if they think natual hair looks "ugly" wait till their hair starts braking off or falling out in clumps due to over processing,or when the dyes turn their hair white .most end up having to wear wigs.but lots are prepeared to take that risk for vainity

I have dyed, cut, relaxed, texturized, weaved, braided, jheri curl, natural, straighten comb (hot comb on the stove) etc.

I like to be able to change my hairstyle the way I want, when I want. No matter what ANYONE else says or thinks about me. I like wavy and straight. I have worn low and big fros. (I am only 31). It doesn't matter either way, but I prefer just whatever is easy and convenient. I love variety.

ALL women are insecure about something. Until they realize who they are in the eyes of God, they always will be. God made beauty in everyone. The only thing we should be concerned with is how God sees us and not everyone else.
