The Black guys at my school are always telling me that I'm not pretty like the light-skinned girls and the latinas and that my hair was nappy. It mad me so choleric and furious and it made me feel ugly.
Why do some men in America overlook Black women?
Wow, that self-hatred thing affects everyone--including the idiots that you have encountered! I, too, am a dark-skinned black woman and have heard many revolting comments (made by black men, by the way) directed at women who look just like myself. And you know what? Though it does bother me a bit--I mean, hey, even I hate to see these guys going through the self-hatred phase--I have realized that it is obviously something that they have to get through. Basically, it's not my problem. If they feel that those who share the same skin tone as there own should be deemed as ugly and unacceptable, then so be it! Hate the "nappy" hair--which may or may not resemble their own--fine! In a nutshell, that is THEIR problem, you're beautiful just the way you are, and well...let's just move on from there shall we?

You don't need to pay attention to the guys that overlook you - they aren't worth it anyway and they're losers!
All you can do is laugh at them and either tell them how big of idiots they really are, or just walk away. I'm sure you're way hotter than the white girls or latinas out there. Sorry you had to put up with that!
Why do some men in America overlook Black women?
Let me know when are you turning 18.
Why do some men in America overlook Black women?
why do you let this few ignorant people affect how your feel about yourself, ignore them and feel free and independent to feel they way you want to feel, not how other feel and others ignorants, uninformed opinions.

Don't let it get to you. There are plenty of men/women who likes women like you and you just haven't met them yet. Everyone's beautiful in some way and if they can't see it in you, don't even bother listening to them. As long as you stay who you are, you'll be fine. I hope you the best!
Why do some men in America overlook Black women?
I went to a Black gay bar one time. I'm White. When I went to the men's room, there was a small group of men making comments about people who were entering or leaving.
One of them said something like: "Yeah the White ones would be OK, but I just can't cope with their ugly faces."
Pretty rude, huh?
Aside from that, I've always had problems with the way I looked. Now, when I look back at pictures of myself when I was younger, I realize that I was really very cute. At the time, though, I thought I was really ugly.
Just try to take note of the things about yourself that are your good features. Everyone has attractive features. You might have beautiful eyes, great legs, a really nice butt, very smooth skin, pretty teeth, kissable %26amp; sensuous lips, or whatever.
If others don't see your assets now, it's their loss. I promise you that someone will in the future.
And regarding being light skinned, have you ever thought about what a pain in the neck it is for people who believe their skin is too pale? They spend loads of money on tanning salons, or bake themselves in the sun, to make their skin darker. And that is sooooooo bad for your skin.
When ever curly or wavy hair is in style, a lot of non-Blacks have to spend loads of money to get their hair permed so it won't lay so flat on their head.
Yeah, I know....really straight hair has been the look for a good while now. I'm white and I have a hard time making my wavey hair behave and lie straight. Before you know it, though, curly or wavey hair will be back in style.
I know that hair can be an emotional issue for some Black women, and I can't fully relate to that, I admit. But it's not as if you can't find cool hair styles for Black hair.
And be grateful you'll never have to go to a tanning salon, or have collagen injections in your lips like a lot of White women do. Aside from looking really weird and unnatural, it's gotta hurt.
We all have to work with what we've got.
Oh, and one more thing. There are men of all races who are attracted to Black women. For all you know, some White guy could be looking at you every day thinking, "Wow, what a hottie," but just be unsure as to how to approach you.

Don't listen to them. You stay strong and personify the beauty of a black woman.
Why do some men in America overlook Black women?
Those black guys at your school must think the lighter skinned girls are better.
They are ignorant pigs.
Why do some men in America overlook Black women?
You shouldn't have to put up with that.I think black women are generally hotter than white women and im white and Irish. You should move to Ireland, we'll treat you right and its pretty cool where I live in a place called Cork. Dont mind the guys in your school they probably cant even get girls..

This questions relates back to the days of slavery. Blacks were seldom tried against each other. The lighter and prettier you were allowed you to work in the masters Big House. Also lighter- skinned women were also considered to be as close as a black man could get to the white mans most valued treasure the white woman. I'm a dark skinned black female. I'm both beautiful inside and out. In high school, I experienced the same problem. Only it wasn't the black guys that were interested in me it was guys of other races. I had one friend that was Latino and several whites. They showed me a lot of respect. Today the men are intimidated by me. I guess it's because I walk with my head high and don't just settle for anything. My mother used to tell me "if a man can't pick up a penny, he's not worth a dime" regardless of his culture, race or ethnicity.
